미얀마 따지렉 

 

 

 

Temple of the Enrobed Elephant

 

The architecture was very unique, much different than you find on the temples in Thailand.

The inside walls were painted with murals depicting different scenes of the Buddha,

and the Buddha statue on the central alter was white with a rounded face and red lips

(again very different from the Buddhas you see in Thailand)

 

 

 

따지렉에 와서 제일 처음 방문한 곳은 바로 이 절이다.

현지어로 뭐라고 하는지 모르겠지만

안내문에 나온 영어명은 Temple of the Enrobed Elephant인데,

그럼, 옷입은 코끼리 사원?

음~ 그런 코끼리 안보이던데, 여하튼 전형적인 태국의 사원과는 여러 차이점을 보인다.

다음으로 따지렉 언덕 위에 세워진 커다란 탑을 향해 이동했다.

근데, 뚝뚝이가 꽤나 오래된 듯하다.

마을 언덕위를 오르기 시작하니 힘에 부친다.

이러다 중간에 퍼지지 싶은데,

굉음을 내고 검은 매연을 계속 내뿜으면서도 용케도 정상까지 올라간다.

언덕위에 다 도달하니 어느덧 드넓은 따지렉이 한눈에 들어온다. 

 

 

 

쉐다곤 파고다

Replica of Shwedagon Pagoda

 

미얀마의 수도 양곤에 있는 쉐다곤파고다의 복제품이다 

 

Perched atop a small hill overlooking the city is an impressive large golden paya, or stupa,

which was built as a replica of Yangon's famous Shwedagon Pagoda.

The large central spire is flanked by many small spires and the whole thing shines quite brightly in the midday sun.
Children hang around the entrance, selling candles and flowers to visitors as offerings.

The paya was also being patrolled by a very young soldier carrying a machine gun.

(he looked no older than 16)

 

 

 

이곳에 도착하니 미얀마 꼬맹이들이 내 주위를 돌면서 꽃을 사서 바치라고 한다.

말도 안통하고 난 불교신자가 아니라서

그런 종교적인 물건을 살 수 없다는 시늉을 했지만, 그들이 알아들을리 만무하다.

게다가 야외임에도 불구하고,

신성시 되는 곳이라 그런지 들어갈 때 신발을 벗어야 한다고 해서 벗었는데,

나올 때는 신발을 벗어 보관했으니 보관료를 달라고 한다.

아이고~

아이들이지만 보통내기가 아니네..쩝

한편으로 어린나이에 저렇게 돈벌이를 하는 모습이 애처롭기도 하고..

 

 

 

지나가는 사람의 모습을 보면 이 탑이 얼마나 큰지 짐작이 간다.

파고다 옆 모퉁이엔 또 엄청 큰 불상들이 그것도 3개나 나란히 있다.

사진이라 느낌은 잘 안나지만 이 불상들도 그 규모가 상당하다.

 

따지렉에서 100밧 짜리 투어를 하면 고산족 마을까지 간다고 하는데,

난 그것은 생략한 관계로

다시 따지렉 시내로 돌아와서 내려준 곳이 바로 아래 시장이다.

그리고는 투어 끝났다고 간다고 한다.

잉..그럼 국경까지 다시 안 태워줘??

뭐야..또 사기당한 것이야?

음..그러면 투어가 너무 짧은데? 그냥 고산족 마을 간다고 그럴걸!

 

대신 시장을 열심히 둘러보기로 했다.

이것도 추억이니깐.

 

 

이곳 따지렉 국경시장에는

정말 없는 것 빼고 다 파는 듯 하다.

중국을 통해 넘어왔는지 한자가 적힌 상품들이 많았는데,

그냥 봐도 짝퉁이거나 불법유통된 물건처럼 보였다.

 

 

 

Border Street Market

Just across the border bridge from Thailand is a large street market.

It caters primarily to locals but there are some shops selling Burmese crafts such as lacquer and wood carving.

Otherwise, it is mainly interesting from the standpoint of seeing local people going about their daily lives.

There are many beggars in the market, and no doubt they will find you.

Supposedly many forms of contraband can be bought at this market,

such as tiger body parts, but I didn't see any of this.

담배 파는 아저씨

 

이곳 따지렉시장의 또 하나 특징

저렇게 양담배를 들고 파는 아저씨들이 많다는 것이다.

시장 주변을 카메라로 찍다보니,

저 담배파는 아저씨가 어느새 나의 모델이 되어버렸다.
